Writing tools used to be about correctness. Now they're about control. Here is what professionals are saying in public forums today:
i have dyslexia, and have a hard time spelling, all i want [an editor] to do is help me fix stupid mistakes not turn a simple response to an email into a 4 paragraph essay that adds nothing.
Coming here just to say how much I hate modern editing tools. Whenever I see it underline a word suggesting it's a mistake - when it isn't - I want to explode. It's ruining everyone's style.
everytime i write something it would always tell me to put commas in places where it doesn't need commasss... like i would ask it to improve my grammar and it would give me a whole paragraph that ai wrote instead.
Almost everytime lately that I use rephrase, it shortens an entire paragraph to one short sentence that is a rephrased version of the one sentence in the entire paragraph that it had a problem with. The rest of that paragraph is necessary to the story, I just wanted to rephrase the one sentence.
